The Duke and Duchess are believed to be seeking a closer residence to the Queen, whose main base is now Windsor Castle. Like all royal residences, Adelaide Cottage is likely to reflect the quintessential regal style prevalent at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

And while palaces are undoubtedly decorated at great expense, there are cheaper ways to bring a touch of royal grandeur into your home, according to an expert.

Chris Harvey, interior expert at Stelrad, said: “If you want to incorporate royal touches into your home to achieve that traditional and elegant look, you don’t have to break the bank!

“The Royal Estate is known for its iconic style that will never go out of style, combining neutral colors and carefully crafted furnishings to a luxurious finish.

“While bespoke furniture and gold-plated ornaments are out of the question for most, here are some interior design tips and tricks that can help you add a touch of glamor to your own home.”

Mr Harvey recommended taking a look at thrift stores or websites “to get your hands on vintage treasures you might not find elsewhere”.

The royal houses are full of antiques and antiques in every corner, many of which have been in the possession of the royal family for centuries.

Other tips for making your abode more regal include adopting a chandelier, adding artwork, and paying close attention to your color schemes.

Mr Harvey explained: “Dress up a dull room by hanging a chandelier, focusing on the lighting for maximum impact once the sun goes down.

“Artworks and sculptures can completely transform a space, so choose your favorite pieces or unleash your creativity by creating your own personal piece.

“Choosing the right color palette can create an upscale illusion, so incorporate regal colors such as golds, deep reds and royal blues into your home.”
