Office of the present: a glimpse of KS Engineers’ new digs in Newark (SLIDESHOW)

KS Engineers, seeking to create an office that would not only make it easier to connect across departments, but would attract (and retain) a multi-generational workforce, recently unveiled its updated 30,000 square foot space at 2 Riverfront Plaza in Newark.

The new space includes a conference room and reception area at the entrance, meeting rooms, telephone booths, a café with a virtual golf and games area, a wellness/meditation room and a library /salon.

To allow better cross-training of divisions, some departments have been positioned next to each other. All interior offices have adjoining meeting rooms to enable collaboration. Open office spaces are interspersed with plan tables with storage that could be used for upside-down plan review sessions and impromptu collaboration.

KS Engineers is a leading engineering, surveying and construction management company.

The design of the renovation was led by Ware Malcomb, who provided interior architecture and design services for the project. Construction of the project was led by SJP Properties.

Marlyn Zucosky, regional manager of Ware Malcomb’s New Jersey offices, said working with KS Engineers management helped bring the project to fruition.

“We held visioning sessions with the KSE leadership team to find out exactly what they were looking for, in terms of improving their culture, operations and work environment,” she said. declared. “The KSE team was particularly open to new ideas, which made the process collaborative and engaging. This new space supports an interactive and unifying culture.

The project was designed to provide a welcoming and hospitable environment for clients and consultants, unify KSE employees and enable streamlined communication. An important goal of the project was to help KSE bridge the gap between different levels of staff and to help various departments work together seamlessly. The design also aimed to attract a multi-generational workforce to help recruit and retain talent.

The fresh aesthetic includes graphics based on images from past projects, designed by KSE’s in-house graphics team, and a color scheme that features KSE’s trademark blue and other complementary colors throughout the space to offer a very modern and inviting atmosphere.

Ware Malcomb, an international design firm based in Irvine, Calif., has 85 employees in the Northeast, working from offices in Newark, Princeton and New York.
