Houzz releases its 2021 report on emerging home design trends

Houzz has identified the top emerging trends in home design based on the latest research * from our community of US homeowners, home design enthusiasts and home professionals. The trends reflect a need for dedicated activity spaces within the home, a desire to bring the outdoors in, a requirement to create flexible interior spaces and a passion for luxurious colors and materials. Dedicated activity spaces

People have been relying on their homes to provide new opportunities for activity and entertainment since the start of the pandemic and it shows in the emerging research trends we are seeing for art studios (nearly 10x), bars home and wine cellars (almost 4x) and home theaters, home gyms and home offices (up to 3x, 2.5x and 2x, respectively).

Bring in the outdoors

The Houzz Kitchen Trends 2021 report found that one in five homeowners open their kitchens to the outdoors. This openness to nature and the role of greenery in our homes is a trend that seems to be accelerating. Searches for artificial plants and trees, as well as indoor pots and planters, were up 7.5-fold and 4.5-fold, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Many homeowners are turning to design options that provide more flexibility in their home’s existing footprint. Searches for TV cabinets with pocket doors (up to 23x), large wall beds (up to 21x) and nesting side tables (up to 20x), create dual use for a room by hiding them creatively when not in use. Pool design

We’ve heard from pool professionals on Houzz that interest has grown over the past year. In Q2 2021, searches for swimming pools and poolhouses each more than doubled compared to the same period in 2020. More specifically, internet users are looking for specific styles, shapes and designs of swimming pools, with searches for swimming pools with water games up to 8x and rectangular. , infinity pools, infinity pools and geometric pools are all seeing significant increases.
