Esholt-Based Company Wins Home Interior Design Best Practice Award at Northern Design Awards

A LOCALE company won the residential interior design best practice award at the recent Northern Design Awards.

This is the second accolade to Esholt-based Design Emporium this quarter after winning Best Residential Swimming Pool at the International Design & Architecture Awards.

The winners of the 2021 Northern Design Awards were chosen by a group of leading industry professionals, including Linda Barker, George Bond, Susie Rumbold and Wayne Hemmingway.

To be considered the best residential practice in the North by such an elitist group of designers demonstrates the level of achievement.

Led by Rik Smith, the firm has grown into one of the region’s foremost design studios, undertaking a wide variety of architecture and interior design projects locally and across the UK. The evolution and growth of Design Emporium are the culmination of 16 years of work. In recent years, Rik has been accepted as a fellow of the British Institute of Interior Design.

(BIID) – the UK’s only professional institute for interior designers – and the company has also become a registered architectural firm with RIBA.

Rik’s vision has been to apply a consistent design process to all of his projects. Architects, interior designers and interior designers work side by side to create a unique and unique vision for each of their projects.

Rik said: “This collaborative approach ensures a seamless interaction between the building and the interior, producing projects that fit comfortably into their context. Style, locality and immediate views are the main starting points of all Design Emporium projects, balancing the requirements of the building with that of the client.Create a connection with the wider landscape and carefully orient / modify the internal spaces to maximizing every view is an important principle applied to every project.

“Clearly, this philosophy that has underpinned the work of Design Emporium for over 16 years is now recognized across the UK and internationally. ”

Hundreds of designers attended the Northern Design Awards at the Concorde Exhibition & Conference Center at Manchester Airport on November 26 for an evening dedicated to celebrating Nordic design talent.

The awards, which were launched with a small event in 2003, caught the attention of a host of well-known designers.

Events Director Shelley Mears said: “It was wonderful to see people come together and introduce themselves to new contacts – that’s what the awards are all about. Many will continue to work together and it is just fantastic.
