Design Research Assistant – New York, NY, US | Works

Martin Brûlé Studio is looking for a Design Research Assistant to support and work closely with the in-house creative team in order to efficiently execute projects on time.

The ideal candidate should have a thorough knowledge of high end furniture, antiques, fabrics and decorative arts. Knowledge of art and galleries is essential. Applicants should be extremely organized, detail-oriented and creative.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Creative Director and Lead Designer, as well as the design team, to help meet design intent
  • Control the overall schedule of the New York studio and that of the creative director
  • Organize the agenda and meetings of the creative director
  • Assist the creative director in communicating his vision
  • Research and research relevant furniture, fabrics, light fixtures, antiques and interior finishes / materials for review
  • Conduct design and art history research and maintain the studio’s active library
  • Be the first point of contact with the New York studio showroom in Brooklyn
  • Stay on top of deadlines and priorities within a cross-functional team and collaboratively meet tight deadlines
  • Organize, manage and maintain libraries of studio equipment (both physical and digital)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in art history, interior design, interior architecture or a related field, an asset
  • Ability to request information and quotes from suppliers when needed
  • Demonstrate a highly organized and systematic approach
  • Ability to communicate with clients
  • Presentation tools, including Adobe Suite and basic office software such as Microsoft Office, an asset
  • Ability to work in person in New York five days a week
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of New York and FF&E design resources – furniture, fabrics, flooring, wall coverings, vendors, artisans, custom furniture, window treatments
