Opportunity: The College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Kent State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Program Director for its Bachelor of Architecture (BS) and Master of Architecture (M.Arch) programs from July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will help formulate and implement an ambitious vision for global 21st century architectural education through creative collaboration with faculty and as an integral member of the leadership team of the CAED. Applicants must demonstrate effective academic leadership and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as outstanding teaching in architecture and creative research/work.

College Highlights: CAED’s distinguished faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and established programs in architecture, architectural studies, interior design, construction management, urban design, landscape architecture, healthcare design, and environmental architecture and design offer many interdisciplinary research opportunities and maintain close relationships. with regional industries and design practitioners. Resources include a new state-of-the-art manufacturing lab and other digital design resources; unique international study opportunities; a series of progressive extracurricular lectures and exhibitions; and campus partnerships with other highly regarded units, including Design Innovation (with a new Bohlin Cywinski Jackson-renovated DI Hub), College of Arts and Sciences, College of Aeronautics and Engineering, Liquid Crystal Institute, and art schools , Fashion and Visual Communications Design.

CAED is instrumental in the University’s growing emphasis on design innovation. Its 40 full-time faculty and administrators and more than 1,150 undergraduate and graduate students now occupy four exciting locations: the spectacular 107,000 square foot John Elliot Center for Architecture and Environmental Design designed by Weiss/Manfredi in edge of Kent town centre; the newly renovated Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC) in Playhouse Square; the Palazzo Vettori in the historic center of Florence, Italy; and the American Academy of Paris in the Latin Quarter of Paris, France.

Located midway between New York and Chicago in the Cleveland/Akron metropolitan area, Kent State University is a classified manufacturing school and a public research university (R1) with very high research activity. It is at the heart of a booming cultural and industrial region that is home to some of the best art museums, parks, universities, restaurants, theaters, concert halls and independent cinemas in the world. These include recent buildings and landscapes designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au, James Corner, Frank Gehry, Farshid Moussavi, Laurie Olin, Stanley Saitowitz and Rafael Viñoly.

Minimum qualifications: Candidates must hold a terminal degree in architecture or a related discipline. They must have relevant experience of four to five years. Academic rank will be at or eligible for the level of Full Associate Professor. The successful candidate must be able to provide evidence and qualifications in the areas of teaching, research and service commensurate with his rank and tenure. Compensation, which includes a comprehensive benefits package, will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
